ST. CAROLUS HOSPITAL SCREENING FACILITY

Architecture, Jakarta, 2020

St. Carolus Hospital Screening Facility is the first built of the Micro Treatment Facility program. The facility aims to identify infected and non-infected patients before entering the hospital building. Being located in a parking lot right across the hospital lobby, the 32 metre long facility serves as a new address for the hospital. The new structure takes advantage of the site condition in which the entrance and exit ramp are concentrated under the canopy of the main building to create a close and secure connection between the new facility and the hospital.

Prefabricated in two weeks and built on-site in four days, the 140 sqm semi-permanent structure comprises a white scaffolding structure, bangkirai wooden flooring and polycarbonate cladding. The corrugated uPVC roof helps reduce heat and sound coming from outside. It has a substantial overhang to reduce the amount of heat received by the walls. The façade are made of translucent polycarbonate cladding to create a subtle visual connection between inside and outside. The material's transparency allows natural light to come in, which reduces energy consumption during the day. The façade opening creates a cross ventilation, which overlaps with the circulation corridor; this creates the necessary natural ventilation inside the building.

Designed by AT-LARS, this project is a joint force collaboration with St. Carolus Hospital in responding to the COVID-19 challenges in Jakarta.
AT-LARS is amongst the 75 Finalists in ArchDaily's 2021 Building of the Year Awards

MICRO TREATMENT FACILITY

Architecture, Jakarta, 2020

Our initiative seeks to provide Micro Treatment Facilities for COVID-19 with a mission: to cater the increasing demand of patient treatment capacity and create a safer environment for Jakarta. The design is quick to construct, scalable, flexible in its sizes and adaptable in various locations. The small-scaled facilities are planned to be set up in different locations across the city such as in hospitals or in urban spaces that has became vacant due to the pandemic.

The design is crafted around WHO guidelines for Severe Acute Respiratory Infections to secure a safe environment both for the patients and the healthcare workers. By means of architecture design we would like to create an attractive and livable healthcare spaces.

In April 2020 we designed 4 types of treatment facility. One is currently under construction. Each facility is designed based on WHO guideline and to fit the site’s potential. Our goal is to continue the facility expansion across Jakarta and beyond.

MISBAR KUPANG

Architecture and Public Space, Kupang NTT, 2019-2020, in construction

Located in the midst of the city's development area, the open air cinema presents itself as a public space ensemble for culture and creative activities. The concept of Misbar Kupang is a simple structure that resembles an Agora, the origin of public space from the ancient Greek.
Like Agora, the squared public space is surrounded by buildings that carry functions that are necessary for the city. The new building adapts the local context in its shape and programmes.

DER HIMMEL (THE CLOUD)

Interior and installation, Goethe Institute, Jakarta, 2018, design proposal

Der Himmel is our strategy to keep the exisiting Foyer an uninterrupted space (multifunctional hall) while creating a new ambience and new perception of the space (= Raumwahrnehmung). Modular and light furnitures are added into the room with different heights, that can be used as tables or chairs to sit and enjoy the installation. The installation guides the visitors while walking through the corridor and entering the main space. It accentuates the fluidity of the existing outside and inside relationship.

BCA LEARNING INSTITUTE
OFFICE PARK

Public space and Landscape, Sentul, 2018-2019, in construction

We were commissioned to renovate a 2300 sqm park inside a learning institute complex in Sentul, West Java. The new park consists of a new organic pedestrian path - the Plaza, which leads visitors from the park entrance to the amphitheatre while creates a new centre inside the park and connections with the neighbouring canteen and gallery. The geometry of the plaza generates spaces along the inner facade of the building, which form elevated green areas that resembles green hills that are common for the area.

SITE CULTURAL CENTRE

Site Cultural Centre for Atalia Magra in Portugal, 2018, competition entry

The general notion was to create a human detail in the vastness of the landscape, that brings attention to a relationship between human, experience, history and nature. The architectural elements of Atalia Magra were used to create a new ensemble of the Cultural Centre. A subtle configuration of curved walls forms the new building. Small openings on the outer wall resemble the openings on Atalia Magra's wall. They enframe the panoramic view which allow visitors to enjoy the landscape in a contemplative way.

MUSEUM MEMORIAL MEI 1998

Architecture, Design proposal for a museum memorial in Jakarta.

Stephanie Larassati developed a bamboo space frame for a museum memorial in Jakarta. The structure gradually opens up to both ends of the building, which creates a sculpture-like form that is dramatic yet humbling in its grandiosity of scale. The elongated building contains enclosed spaces where the exhibitis take place. Under the great roof is a place for interaction and contemplation.

A SACRAL BUILDING FOR BERLIN

BLIBLIMART

Interior, Blibli HQ, Sarana Jaya, Jakarta Pusat, 2019, built

Bliblimart is a convenience store that is operated by the Indonesian e-commerce company, Blibli. The task was to transform an old multi-function hall into a new store for Bliblimart that is run by an online payment system, where customers are able to purchase products without being checked out by a cashier. Located on the ground floor of its new headquarters in Sarana Jaya building, the store becomes a significant part of the company’s entrance. The aim of the project is to create a wholesome experience of the future supermarket, which unifies buying, networking and interacting within the realm of an advanced technology.

Our design approach for Bliblimart is to generate a light and bright space that communicates a feeling of freshness and vibrance when entering the space. Together with an integrative visual design, that is simplified yet engaging, the interior design tends to create a futuristic nuance while keeping a sense of warmth and friendliness. The experience in the store should reflect the ease, reliability, and delight that customers associate with Blibli, with an added personal touch. Photography by KIE.

HOW PERMANENT IS TEMPORARY

Open House - Exhibition - Talkshow, Jakarta Creative Hub, December 2019

How Permanent is Temporary explores the potential, the impact and the possibilities of ephemeral architecture through Atelier Larassati's projects – what today’s sensibilities and needs might be and where they might be leading. What values and possibilities can we imagine that is unburdened by the constraints of finality and prerequisite of permanence?

The talkshow was held in collaboration with Ibu Arsitek.

CO-LIVING IN VACANT SPACES

Exhibition, CASA Indonesia: Future Living, Ritz Carlton Jakarta, 2019

Looking for new forms of living that better reflect changes in the economy — and in society — co-living platforms offer alternative housing options in an otherwise archaic market. Our proposal provides an alternative solution to the tension between Jakarta's affordable housing shortage and the enormous amount of vacant properties. The microhomes constitute an affordable and sustainable alternative in the stressed Jakarta housing market as they help to keep vacant buildings safe and in constant maintainance.

PROJECT BHIMASENA

Temporary architecture and Exhibition, Jakarta International Expo, IndoDefence, 2018

An expansive scaffolding construction was designed as a 2 storeys structure which in itself is mighty enough to stand out in the exhibition hall and produces an exciting setting for visitors to engage in the issues of the content. The structure seems delicate, almost see-through and embodies the company's spirit as an evolving hub for research and development in contrast to permanence and finality. In a close collaboration with Studio 1212.

3 STREAMS EXHIBITION

Exhibition, Brussels, 2017, completed

"Architecture exhibitions are in many times a paradox because to understand architectural works, a building is to be experienced 1:1. Architecture exhibtions present the Architecture however not in its “natural” or “real” condition, reduced in its scale and separated from its environment."

REKOLEKSI MEMORI:
A TEMPORARY MUSEUM

Installation, Taman Ismail Marzuki, Jakarta, 2015, completed

Temporary Museum of Recollecting Memories was an attempt to gather blurred, scattered memories into a tangible physical space – a space of collective memory. It was built to commemorate the International Human Right Day. The 280-sqm pavillon was built in three days using stacked scaffolds, that symbolize the act of memory construction. The overall structure was draped with galvanized mesh and black paranet fabrics. These two materials - mesh and fabric - together create a tough and limiting, yet soft and graceful translucent effect.
