Inspired by one of Pramoedya Ananta Toer’s book - Anak Semua Bangsa (German: Kind aller Völker), the story is a projection of our own experiences and emotions as Indonesians living in Germany.
Das Kind takes you through three different chapters: 1. The encounter with a new reality – a phase that involves imitation, adaptation and adjustment in a new environment.
2. Being miles away from home is no doubt a struggle; but harvesting from it makes it a priceless struggle. You fit in. You feel settled. But you will always have to make decision, where to go on for the next journey. The second chapter - Arrived. Whereto?
3. Homeward longing – the last chapter is about the melancholy of feeling settled in a country you have lived in for years and the longing for your home country. Either way you feel you are a stranger in both places.
